This page is maintained by the Crown team to answer common questions about how Crown handles your information. It is a plain-language summary of our practices and is not legal advice or an independent certification.
1. Information you give us
When you create an account, we collect the information you provide: username, display name, email address, password, and (optionally) profile picture and bio. When you post, rate, comment, or customize a crown, we store that content and the associated metadata.
2. Information collected automatically
We automatically collect basic device information (device type, operating system, app version), IP address, general location derived from IP, and interaction logs (posts viewed, ratings given, challenges joined). This information helps us keep leaderboards fair, prevent abuse, and improve the app.
3. Camera, photos, and microphone
Crown only accesses your camera, photo library, or microphone when you actively use a feature that requires it — for example, capturing a selfie, photo, or video for a challenge. Media is uploaded only when you tap Post.
4. How we use your information
- Run challenges, calculate scores, and award crowns and prizes.
- Display your posts and profile to other users according to your visibility settings.
- Send notifications about ratings, follows, and challenges you've joined.
- Detect fraud, spam, harassment, and manipulation of ratings or follows.
- Improve the app and troubleshoot technical issues.
5. Who can see your content
Your username, display name, profile picture, bio, crown collection, and public posts are visible to other Crown users and may appear on leaderboards and in shareable links. Ratings you give are private to you; totals are aggregated for public scoring. Direct messages are visible only to you and the recipient.
6. Sharing with third parties
We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data with service providers that help us run Crown:
- Hosting & database: our infrastructure provider stores account data, posts, media, and ratings.
- Analytics & crash reporting: aggregated usage and error data to keep the app stable.
- Payments (optional): processed by a PCI-compliant payment provider when you subscribe or purchase.
- Law enforcement: only when required by valid legal process.
7. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and measure aggregate usage. You can clear these from your browser or device settings; doing so will sign you out.
8. Data retention
We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Posts and ratings remain until you delete them or delete your account. Backup copies may persist for up to 30 days after deletion. Anonymized aggregate data (e.g., total posts per day) may be retained indefinitely.
9. Your choices
- Edit your profile: update your display name, bio, and avatar in Settings.
- Delete a post: tap the menu on any of your posts.
- Block or report: use the menu on any profile or post.
- Notifications: manage push and email notifications in Settings.
- Access, export, or delete your data: email privacy@crown.app.
10. Children
Crown is not intended for anyone under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect information from children under this age. If you believe a child has created an account, contact safety@crown.app.
11. Security
We use encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), encrypted storage, and role-based access controls to protect your data. No online service is 100% secure — please use a strong, unique password and enable any additional protections offered by your device.
12. International users
Crown is operated from the United States. If you access Crown from another country, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
